Discover the Surroundings of Los Romanes – A Paradise for Active Lifestyle Lovers

Los Romanes is nestled in the green rolling hills of the Axarquía, in the hinterland of Málaga. This authentic white village overlooks the La Viñuela reservoir and is surrounded by olive groves, almond, mango and avocado trees, and mountain ranges. The area is exceptionally diverse and ideal for those who enjoy an active lifestyle in nature, away from the crowds of mass tourism.

For hikers, the adventure literally begins at the edge of the village. Around the Embalse de La Viñuela, well-maintained trails invite you to enjoy relaxed walks with wide views over the water and surrounding hills. These routes are popular all year round thanks to their variety and relative tranquility.

For those seeking more of a challenge, you can head from Los Romanes towards the mountain villages of Canillas de Aceituno, Sedella, and Alcaucín. In this area you will also find La Maroma, at 2,069 meters the highest mountain in the province of Málaga, located in the Sierra de Tejeda. The routes range from moderate to demanding and reward you with stunning panoramas over the Mediterranean Sea and the Andalusian inland.

The Axarquía is known as one of the most beautiful regions of Andalusia for mountain biking. From Los Romanes, you can easily access a network of gravel roads and unpaved trails. Around the La Viñuela reservoir, you’ll find longer, relatively accessible routes, ideal for relaxed rides or e-bikes.

More experienced mountain bikers can challenge themselves on routes towards Periana, Puente Don Manuel, and the higher mountain passes. Here, long climbs, fast descents, and technical sections alternate, always with views of an untouched landscape that remains largely unaffected by tourism.

The asphalt is generally in good condition and the elevation changes make every ride a sporty challenge. Popular routes lead around the reservoir and further towards Comares, Alfarnate, and Colmenar, villages known for their demanding climbs and beautiful viewpoints.

Thanks to the mild climate, road cycling is possible here almost all year round, making the region popular with both recreational cyclists and dedicated athletes.

Motorcyclists are also fully catered for here. The winding roads through the hills of the Axarquía offer both relaxed rides and technically challenging stretches. Routes towards the Montes de Málaga or the inland areas of Granada combine twisty roads with spectacular landscapes and little traffic.

Along the way, small villages and scenic viewpoints invite you to stop for a coffee or enjoy a lunch in the sun.

After an active day, Los Romanes is the perfect place to unwind. The village is known for Restaurante El Charco, a popular spot among both locals and visitors. Here you can enjoy excellent grilled dishes and Andalusian classics, often served on the terrace with views over the hills and the reservoir. The restaurant is located just 300 meters from our Bed & Breakfast.

In the surrounding villages, you will also find numerous traditional ventas (restaurants) where you can enjoy tapas, local wines, and homemade dishes.

In short:

B&B Casa Juntos in Los Romanes is the ideal base for active guests who enjoy nature, tranquility, and great food, with new routes and experiences available every day.
